About Us
AventWest Children's Mentoring (AWCM) is an after school tutoring program for students in the AventWest Community who are academically at-risk of failing. The program has served students residing in the community since 1999. AWCM is affiliated with Kids Cafe, the nation's largest charitable meal service and nutrition education program operated by Second Harvest and administered locally by the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. AWCM is supported by the AventWest Community Development Corporation.
The AventWest Community Development Corporation (AWCDC) organized as a nonprofit corporation in June of 2000 and received tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code on August 16, 2002. The Corporation operates under a Board of Directors. The AventWest community in southwest Raleigh is an area bounded roughly by Avent Ferry Road on the south, Athens Drive and Jones Franklin Road on the west, Hillsborough Street on the north and Gorman Street on the east.
The AWCM program receives generous support from statewide organizations and companies that partner with us to meet the needs of the students. If you are interested in becoming a partner or donating to our program, contact the AWCM Director at 919-332-8720 or awcmdirector@nc.rr.com.

AWCM helps the students become self-reliant and improves their self-confidence by improving their reading, math, language and writing skills to increase their chances of graduating from high school and seeking additional education and training.
Community Connections
AventWest Children's Mentoring (AWCM) enrolls students in grades K-10 living in the AventWest community. Students attending AWCM are from a variety of backgrounds including those who are Hispanic and speak English as a second language, African-American, Asian, African, Vietnamese and Caucasian.
